Changes in some of the statutory certificate formats from 1st July 2009
According to new SOLAS Amendments as per resolution MSC 240(83), changes in the certificate templates have been introduced to Passenger Ship Safety Certificate, Cargo Ship Safety Certificate, Cargo Ship Safety Construction Certificate and Cargo Ship Safety Equipment Certificate. Similar Amendments are brought to the forms for the Nuclear Passenger Safety Certificate and the Nuclear Cargo Ship Safety Certificate contained in the appendix to the Annex to the 1974 SOLAS Convention.

MSD Sheets mandatory from 1st July 2009 for MARPOL Annex I cargoes and marine fuel oils
The new SOLAS amendment effective from 1st July requires to all new and existing ships, carrying MARPOL Annex I cargoes (oil) and marine fuel oils, to be provided with a material safety data sheet prior to loading such cargoes. The regulation refers to the Recommendation for material safety datasheets (MSDS) for MARPOL Annex I cargoes and marine fuel oils initially introduced by IMO in 77th session of safety committee.
ISPS Code applicable for all Cargo Ships over 500 GRT as per ITC 1969
Interim Scheme adopted by the IMO Maritime Safety Committee per MSC/ Circ.1157 dated 23 May 2005, allowing vessels over 500 GRT as per ITC 1969 but with previous national tonnage less than 500 GRT to not comply with the ISPS Code, ceased to exist on July 1, 2008. Now all vessels over 500 GRT as per the ITC 1969 shall comply with the ISPS Code.
